Have You Received A Tax Distraint Notice?
Tax distraint is the procedure of taking away one's assets to dispose of at public sale, in order to pay off outstanding tax owed. The tax collector has the legitimate power to take this course of action without a court ruling, but a certain process has to be followed to stay inside the regulation. For starters, a mail will be sent to the debtor warning that distraint action is about to start. This may be followed by a visit to the debtor's property or premises by a Revenue official, in order to determine what belongings and possessions of value might be seized.
